Rumours of a PS5 Pro just won't go away, as Insider Gaming is once again reporting that the generational half-step is targeting a 2024 launch date. Back in March, the reliable publication said Sony has plans for a Pro console, which is supposedly in development. Insider Gaming is now saying that the assumed PS5 Pro is "aiming for a holiday 2024 release".
For the same site to drop another mention of a Pro system, it must be fairly confident in its sources. Of course, we won't know for sure if this thing exists until it's actually announced, but it looks like these rumours aren't going anywhere.
So when would this PS5 Pro be revealed? Well, late 2024 is still a long time away — at least in terms of marketing cycles. Sony is supposed to be hosting a big show within the next few months, but we'd imagine that'll be too soon for a full hardware announcement. We'd probably be looking at confirmation in early-to-mid 2024, with something like a five or six-month run-up to launch — unless Sony sees fit to give us a cheeky teaser first.
But how do you feel about a potential PS5 Pro? A poll we ran last month completely divided opinion on a new console — but have you changed your mind since then? Call out an all too secretive Sony in the comments section below.

Can also guarantee Microsoft will come out with a new upgraded console around the same time, No way they will let sony be the only ones. So once again it's going to come down to a battle of specs and pricing.
Unless it somehow is also significantly slimmer, I don't see a big market for this.
@UltimateOtaku91 that's the thing though, there are zero rumors about a xbox series upgrade in a world where there are tons of rumors about big MS projects.
i do think MS will do a digital series x at 100 dollars cheaper to fase out the series S because that system is not cutting it anymore in development now that we are getting more current gen only games. even digital foundry says they should alteast stop the parity between the S and X.
This is the dumbest generation of all time. We are almost 3 years into the 'next gen' with barely any exclusive 'next gen' games and barely any heavy hitters. The best games of the last 2 and a half years have been available on PS4. And now you're telling me there's a pro console on the horizon? Stupid.
I really don't have much interest on a pro right now, like seriously what will be the difference? We get 99% of games at 60 fps and they all look good, look at Horizon Forbidden West. If the only difference is instead of games being 1080-1440p and now native 4k, I really don't see many people buying this at launch. Even though it's starting to slow down, we're still getting cross-gen games so the generation is only truly starting this year, so there's ALOT of untapped potential left for the current hardware that hasn't been utilized. I might get a pro down the line, but probably only if the form factor is considerably smaller and I'll wait further for a special edition version that appeals to me.
Love this site a lot but I feel there’s more rumours than fact on here at the minute.
In all honesty it’s probably because of Sony’s lack of transparency but hey!
Whether it's real or not I won't be buying it. In fact I would say this has been the most underwhelming generation to date and I see little justification forking out on another system I don't really need when the reality is exclusives have been few and far between. Most of the games available can also be played on PS4 so there is simply no point to this right now.
I just really don’t see really why Sony would. Last generation was the first time this has happened and was due to unique circumstances that don’t exist now. Hardware is made with razor thin margins to make money from the software. I don’t recall the pro being hugely successful anyway.
Yeah, I'd like a PS5 Pro Slim. That way I can retire the PS4 Pro to the game storage and play the current gen + upgrade all available PS4 games to the PS5.
I just don't see it.
There's no need for it. We're just now coming to the end of the cross gen phase. There's no HDR 2.0 to account for, people aren't running out to get 8K TVs.
A slim model sure. But a pro model? I'm unconvinced it will happen or that there's a need.
I prefer PS5 Slim for cheaper price and probably lesser electricity consumption.
Are the PS5 Slim models on internet still the non official model ?
To be honest I always thought they would do a pro premium version for ps5, but most people seem to think not. And next year makes sense if the rumoured slim model is releasing this year. It will probably be aiming at small premium marker with most sales been standard ps5. Also it won't be flooding the market with too many models because the rumoured slim model will apparently be the one model combining both physical and digital models, so the pro model will just be a option premium model with much higher price
@itsfoz Yeah. I think it's pretty weird. Imagine reading a respectable newspaper (not a tabloid) and they have a load of articles each day that are like "rumour: Tom Cruise is half elf" and "rumour: Coca Cola building giant mech in secret factory under Russel Crowe's house". It's just weird. Rumours are usually the domain of random gossips and low tier news outlets like Hello! or The Sun.
Knowing Sony at the minute, they'll probably announce this on a bus stop poster in Skegness three days before it's released
I personally think that a Pro is needed but if you don’t think so don’t buy it when it releases. We have games that can drop as low as 720p in resolution just to try and maintain 60fps. Game like Tchia that needs a performance mode at 1080p just to hit 60fps. So yes when the Pro releases I’ll cop one for sure
Just make it bigger (PS4 pro bigger than PS4)
I guess that will be the detachable disc drive version.
@UltimateOtaku91 Why would Xbox need a Series X 'Pro' console? Its not as if Xbox games can't be played with higher tier graphics, higher tier RT and/or Higher Frame Rates day and date on a decent PC.
A Series X/PS5 already costs $500+ and a Pro isn't likely to be as cheap or cheaper than a 'base' console so it may cost as much as a decent GPU that 'beats' PS5 Pro as it has DLSS and much better RT performance too. Sony may 'need' a Pro to keep up with Xbox on PC's as Xbox games release day/date on PC and can offer 4k, 120fps+ and much better RT options.
I'd consider a PS5 Pro - if it was 'affordable' and offered a 'significant' benefit over a PS5 - not just being able to play a 30/40fps mode with RT at 60fps when the game runs at 60fps without some 'RT' Shadows or reflections. 4k/60/RT vs 4k/30/RT or 4k/60 no RT - especially for such 'minor' impact RT shadows or reflections actually make to the game-play, the story etc. Over $500 for a Console is 'not' affordable either so it would really need to offer a sizeable upgrade over the base PS5 to make a difference but not be a sizeable price difference - although that would likely mean Sony taking a LOSS on every Pro Sold in the hope they can sell enough Subs, games, accessories etc to offset that loss long term...
Is it the same people that guaranteed that there was a Switch Pro on the way? Yeah, I don't believe it.
I won't touch it. If Sony release an upgrade that quickly, it'll be like they kneecapped early adopters again. Won't be as bad as Vita but it'll still feel like a middle finger.
I'm in...I just want games that are native 4K and 60fps. Wasn't that the promise? I am still amazed at how many new games that are 60fps but have to drop down to 1080p or 1440p.
@itsfoz Since the start of March, we've posted five Rumour articles. That's too many?
@BAMozzy @jdv95 There are rumours though of Microsoft making a pro console, and I understand what you say about xbox games already being on a platform (PC) that would be more powerful than any console Microsoft come up with, but it's down to providing options to its player base who don't own a gaming PC, otherwise why would did they make the Xbox One X? Same situation as now as PC was more powerful back then as well. Plus they wouldn't want their main competition having more console options as higher end PC users who want to get into console gaming would have only one option.

I love peak performance as much as i can get without a gaming PC, so i am all in on Pro models. They aren’t intended to be mainstream and outsell the base models. But for those that want more specs, it’s a nice option. Games scale so this won’t throw off development even with the lower number of units in the marketplace. It’s a win win for devs and peak performance players like myself. Hope it comes out and isn’t ugly like PS5. Don’t make it need a stand to lay flat and i am all in.
What a waste of time, releasing an upgrade to a console that has barely been used yet, apart from crossgen games. Just no.
There will definitely be a market for it, a four year turnover for upgraded hardware isn't unreasonable. I'll purchase one if the specs are worth it.
And I really won’t buy it. It’s not really necessary and devs haven’t really tapped into what the PS5 really can do.
I don't think it's true, but I will upgrade my PS5 to a PS5 Pro if there will be one.
If this is true, I find it to be ridiculous, considering how hard it’s been for people to get the base system, and also, considering that we’ve barely had any games that take full advantage of the system as it is already. I bought a pro in the fourth generation, absolutely will not be buying a pro this time around. Sorry, Sony.
Why would they spend resources on a pro version when they still make games for PS4?
Can they make some actual next-gen games before wasting time on a ps5 pro?
The majority of all of ps5 games have been ps4 games with a small 4K upgrade. Now they want us to pay more for an even smaller upgrade when they haven’t really done anything “next-gen” yet.
Sony just trying to milk every cent out of there fans.
As others have noted, the PS4 Pro was built to solve for a specific need — the rise of consumer-grade 4K TVs that released after the base model.
A PS5 Pro doesn't just have a "need" to solve. Prettier graphics? Alright, but many people are just NOW getting their hands on a console, and those of us that have been around since launch day haven't had enough "next-gen" experiences to notice the need for an upgrade. Right now everything still looks great because we haven't been flooded with games yet, and many people aren't seeing the need for a performance boost.
I understand giving options to your product line, but it's mildly annoying that this is what Sony is going to invest resources and time in over other, more mass-appeal endeavors.
I'm sure a time will come when a PS5 Pro would be welcomed, and a year and half from now when cross gen is hopefully good and gone, I can surely see devs making use of one. However, I'm not sure I'd need or want one. More frames, more raytracing, higher resolutions would all surely be possible, but until 60fps modes start becoming a PS5 Pro only thing, I don't think there would be enough to twist my arm into getting one.
so devs potentially have to run a game on XSS and now upto a pro?
games already release in an often mess. Maybe if games were finished, and optimised they would perform better.
Fantastic news. Fingers crossed it turns out to be true. I will pre-order ASAP.
This is where they sell you back ps3 compatibility at a premium and maybe try and claim 4k 60fps ray tracing. It's stupid, greedy and predatory in the current environment but of course it will happen at some point.
@UltimateOtaku91 The difference is that MS has 'several' tiers already - ranging from 'Entry' tier Streaming at 1080/60 on 'any' device with a limited library of games to an 'entry' level hardware option - the Series S, a Premium 4k tier Series X and the 'pro' tier PC market.
Sony have 1 tier - PS5 tier - albeit in two SKU's - one with and one without a disc drive. The 'Entry' and 'Premium' tier are literally the same - the only difference is one allows you to use Physical media (not just games but blurays etc too) and the other is digital only - but still comes at a 'Premium' cost.
The Series S is an Entry hardware option - 'affordable' but doesn''t offer 'Premium' graphical performance - lower resolutions, lower visual settings etc but ideal for all those 'HD' TV owners who don't own 4k HDR 120hz Premium TV's to 'benefit' from Premium Graphical quality and as I said, the PC market has the highest tier options all without MS needing to R&D a 'pro' console - they can let Asus make a 'RoG' windows Handheld to compete with 'Steam Deck' and Switch in the Portable sector, all their games will be on it as will Game Pass so don't need to waste their time and money on making a 'handheld' themselves. They could allow Asus to make a Windows 'Console' with Game Pass & Steam built in that blows PS5 Pro's away in terms of performance.
Sony don't release day/date on PC so the 'best' (and 'only') option is a PS5 - so you can't play at 'higher' tiers - therefore there is a 'potential' market and if it costs say the same (or more) than a decent 'nVidia' GPU that outperforms it, people will still buy the PS5 Pro because the nVidia GPU won't help to play Spider-Man 2 day/date at its 'best' visual/performance - whereas if you want to play Starfield at the highest graphical settings and/or frame rates, you can on PC.
I don't doubt that MS will likely want to keep in the Console market to cater to 'Console' gamers who prefer the simple plug/play and/or bang for buck a console offers - but they have Cloud (the entry and lowest cost tier), Series S (entry hardware tier with a 'low' entry cost), Series X (Premium Console tier up to 4k/120) and PC (Highest tier, biggest Library and 'Pro' gamer tier visuals/performance) so can perhaps look more to the 'next' gen than 'refreshing' this one. Maybe only do a 5-6yr gen with a 2-3yr cross-over period instead of a 7/8yr gen with a 'Pro' mid release to prolong a gen...
This gen has made 3 things standard so far…
1)cross gen games
2)£70 ‘next gen’ versions of cross gen games
3) compromises sold as options
And like the little genius’s console gamers are, each one has been applauded.
So it really wouldn’t surprise me if they did try (and succeed) in selling us PRO models whilst having less than a handful of dedicated current gen games out that we’d all struggle to comfortably point to as examples of ‘next gen’ visuals
But, seeing as it’s doubtful we’ll see properly optimised games again on these closed platforms, if it eradicates some of the options we now get in deciding whether to compromise visuals or framerate…I’ll totally be part of the problem and invest in a ‘PRO’ model…and then roll my eyes at news reports of a ‘pro pro’ model that will almost certainly be rumoured as a generation, that’s already touted as being far longer than the last, carries on.
Come back to me when they stop releasing cross-gen games
Sony's showcase will reveal the Slim (i.e. the model with the detachable disc drive) - I think that's a given.
As for a Pro? Well, the current PS5 only exclusives have been somewhat sparse and, in some cases, lacklustre to say the least so it's not needed yet!
I can imagine that the Showcase could announce the death of all 1st party support for the PS4 going forward.
This opens the door for an upgraded PS5 at some point and sort of ties up with the "PS5 reboot" mentioned previously. Perhaps the tub o' lard is finally going to get some games that are worthwhile, you never know!
Seems early in the life cycle. However the mode choices prove that it might well be needed. Hogwarts can't run especially great on the high fidelity mode.
I think it sets a bad precedent to release it with how this generation has gone so far...
I think the pro version of the console will be just a repackage of the new pro controller and more storage..maybe detachable drive and that's it.
It’s not needed at the moment imo when we are still supporting last Gen.
2025 maybe.
Absolutely Ridiculous …..they r just now phasing out ps4 games and making ps5 games only…haven’t even seen games using the full potential yet….no need for this yet….
I feel like this was inevitable, but I really don't see the point on my side. I feel like the base PS5 is more than enough for current games, and we've truly yet to see next-gen only type games. 🤷♀️
I'm sure some people will pick one up, but I think I'll hold off tbh.
The dudes released a half baked PS5 so they can shift more of the PS5 Proper too.
Even though this generation is technically a few years in, because of the pandemic itself — and the delayed games and hardware shortages that came with it — the PS5 feels like it only came out last year.
For that reason, I really don’t want a PS5 Pro.
But the actual main reason I don’t want one released is because I might want it. Especially if it could run every game at a locked 60fps. I don’t want to spend another $700 on a new console yet.
What a PS5 Pro will bring that justifies an entirelly new console?
Pointless and redundant. There's no real reason or market for a PS5 Pro to exist at this point in time, with the state of the current generation.
It’s still 18 months away so plenty of time. If it can do 4K/60fps/Ray tracing - all at the same time - then I’m in.
It's going to be an uphill battle to sell people on this thing. PS4 Pro I could see a niche there but this just feels unnecessary.
A mid gen tech refresh makes more sense than a full blown PS6, as a new console generation would require them introducing a new major feature similar to the scope of the Dual Sense.
Im fine by that.i bought a ps4 pro.and i enjoy it a lot.so a ps5 pro is cool by me.word up son
Still waiting on the Switch Pro they said I would definitely have.
Unless this is a software update, and I certainly don't think it will be, I'm not interested. This is ridiculous-sounding. Nothing makes sense.. the games are still cross-gen and there aren't many games taking advantage of the PS5 capabilities the way it is (or so it appears.) I spent $500-some dollars to get what I already have and im not about to do it again for a largely similar experience.
Maybe the word Pro is thrown around but it actually just means the model with he USB disc drive peripheral. That makes more sense to me than a whole overhaul upgrade to the core system. Crazy.
Wonderful news! Buy day one! Price doesn't matter. Ps5 is too old and tired as it is today, releasing too many 30-fps games or 1080 60fps.
Honestly last Gen I only got a Pro after the PS5 had already launched, and that was a hand-down from a friend that realized console gaming is not their jam.
I don’t play the PS5 enough these days to pursue a PRO out of the gate, I might get one years later if I see a price cut, for collection sake mostly.
I would be a lot more likely to get an Xbox Series X2
Edit:
Honestly I can see room for either PS or XB pro console existing. Would be nice to pop a game and just pick the highest quality mode and retaining 60fps.
I love these rumours. Especially when people treat rumours as if they were facts and get upset over them.
Getting a pro version when we are only just about leaving the ps4 behind ..what a joke...I won't be getting it..think they have had enough of my money(if true)
Let's assume it's happening - that there is a Pro, and it is targeted for 4Q 2024.
The earliest Sony would admit it exists is next summer. There is no way they would want to risk cannibalizing sales for the 2023 holiday season, so there is 0 chance they would admit it exists in 2023. Don't expect any confirmation on this front any time this year. Period.
I don't think that's more or less true if there's a modular slim in the pipeline or not - whatever the existing hardware is, they would expect sales to take a hit once they announce a Pro is coming, so they'll make the announcement relatively close to release..
Throw in what appears to be lower-than-expected sales for PSVR2, and Sony has to be concerned about how much they can charge for premium hardware when people are price-sensitive. Unless the Pro drops at $500 with a corresponding price drop for the "standard" PS5, I don't know what price point they could come up with that would drive sales.
So I'm skeptical of the rumors - but even if they're true, they won't be confirmed for at least a year.
EDIT: I'm going to repeat my prediction, though - any hardware refresh will eliminate (or at least vastly reduce) internal storage, in favor of coming with the m2 slot already filled. Dual m2 slots are possible, but less likely. Just like the PS4 came with a drive you could swap preinstalled, so will the next major revision to the PS5.
A new console is time for new hopes of disc based backwards compatibility
Whatever... i'm still not buying one.
By the title I thought that someone else also reported on this but no, it’s the very same source that’s just repeating the same thing, many other ‘insiders’ have already said they have no information regarding a Pro system and it honestly doesn’t make sense for this generation, let alone in 2024, also the remote play handheld he’s reporting on also makes little sense for me since Sony just partnered with backbone last year which accomplishes that very same thing.
So given all this I do think Tom Henderson is full of sh** regarding these rumors.
@LiamCroft As I say, love this place and certainly not one to denounce it in any way but yes, five rumour articles in the last month seems heavy for a dominantly news driven website.
Maybe a single ‘rumours’ article a month full of speculation etc would work better? Let’s us folk who ignore rumour till it’s fact ignore it?
@itsfoz Considering how many articles we post every day, having a single Rumour article basically once a week really isn't very much. There are so many we could cover, but choose not to.
People fought for their lives to get a PS5 and now the stock problems are over they’re making a new model that’ll likely also be hard to find just to spit in the faces of those who waited, you can’t lie that’s scummy
I don't mind the rumor articles at all, it's interesting to see reactions and talk about.
With that being said, they need to deliver WAY more PS5 ONLY exclusives before we start seriously talking about a PS5 Pro.
If this ends up being true, they're basically saying the base PS5 was a cross gen transitional type of hardware? No way Uncle Jim Ryan!
@theMEGAniggle if you account for Covid and the fact that it's just the start of the 3rd year, (we aren't 3 years in) I don't see it any different from any other gen, especially not PS4 when game development time went up dramatically.
PS4 got the games it's most popular for 3+ years in as well. Horizon, GOW, Uncharted 4, etc...none of those came in the first 2 years.
There just needs to be a breakthrough in development, or publishers need to streamline through better pipelines and outsource studios.
I'd welcome it to boost VR. My bank account would not.
I can't see it happening, though.
Don't see the need for it at all. Developers have barely started making current gen-only games let alone hitting any sort of limits. The PS4 Pro was because 4K TVs were being widely adopted, there's nothing like that this time either.
What we do need is a new Nintendo Switch...
I wonder if Sony are making this because they are worried Xbox is making one; and Xbox is doing the same thing on their side… when neither one of them truly believes in it but they just can’t be caught with their pants down.
agreed with all the negative sentiments on here. this gaming gen has been a complete letdown so far, hence why i still do not own a ps5. they barely tapped into the graphical potential of the ps5 (maybe it has reached 30% at this point) and yet sony cannot stop thinking about a pro model. all that will do is make games even less optimized and hazardly thrown together just like the pc space. i miss the days when developers tried to extract every drop of power it could from the hardware to wow gamers. with constantly evolving hardware specs, devs simply won't have enough time to get to know the console before moving onto higher specs. o yea, and owners of the first hardware revision will get left in the dust (with broken builds of games) like they did with the base ps4 model (once the pro launched).
@JSnow2 Yeah, that's part of it. With how difficult it was to get one for years, and it really only just reaching normal sales now, a Pro basically declares the OG5 as little more than a prototype beta that managed to have a price increase in its temporary lifespan.
@theMEGAniggle I'm still not buying it. It's the same publication running "unnamed sources" rumors over and over again. A much more important publication (Bloomberg) ran Switch Pro rumors literally for years and no such thing ever existed.... There's ad money and SEO optimization in them thar hills.
What I hate is that because of how last gen went, and because the Switch Pro circus got a lot of traffic for "news" sites, and because games are optimized like garbage, the life cycle of every console generation from now on is "console releases, within 6 months rumors of a replacement begin, within 2 years fanbase splits arguing about the anemic launch hardware/need for updates" and within 3 everyone is just waiting for the next generation.
This is the cycle Gunepei Yokoi cautioned is the direction of the industry when he directed Nintendo to go with obsolete hardware all the time. Looking at Switch sales, hard to say he was wrong.... All without "Switch Pro"
I think the media is just hungry for mobile style "replacement product ever 2.5 months" cycles, saw it worked before, and invents news where it doesn't have any to make it happen. What likely DOES happen is these hardware mfrs are in talks for theoretical console designs for the NEXT gen and almost certainly for hardware bumps "just in case" from the day a console launches. Of course Sony's already working on PS6, working on possible 5Pro's "just in case the market needs one" so they're ready to respond, and talking to hardware vendors. And these things get picked up as "news", "it's happening."
From Switch Pro rumors the only certain part of the "rumors" was that a bunch of Samsung displays had been purchased. And they were. For the SWOLED. But the "rumors" were certain that meant a whole new 4k capable DLSS powered Switch with an eGPU dock was coming out within a year.
We don't even have parts orders for these rumors, just "unnamed sources" who heard from someone who heard from someone that in over a year Sony's absolutely making a specific product that nobody could know because even they wouldn't have finalized designs yet, or even know what chip they'd be using since it likely doesn't exist yet.
Unless the global economy has a magic renaissance in 2 years, I'm not seeing it. For now they're just selling PS5's to most. PS5 + PSVR2 + PS5 Pro = $1800 minimum on a console platform over 4 years. Even Nintendo would laugh their heads off at that, lol.
@UltimateOtaku91 I know "Phil says a lot of things", but Phil already said years ago that they don't want to be in a an "Xbox 1X situation again" this gen and that's part of why they did such a big upgrade at the start. I'd be surprised if Sony didn't feel the same way. I'm really not convinced the extra cost of R&D and additional costs for game licensing and support are worth the measly sales for these "Pro" consoles that hardly sold and basically lived for 2 years. Sony was singing the praises of it in the first 6 months when enthusiast sales were high, then it dropped off a cliff and they abandoned it. Xbox pushed it harder because it was a soft relaunch of the whole X1 platform, but if MS doesn't want to have to do a Pro console, I can't imagine Sony does, either. Unless one or the other is truly planning on ending "generations" starting now, even if partly as fallout from the scalper/demand/supply issues from a generational launch.
@Porco If it DOES happen I think the biggest lesson to learn is to never, ever buy a launch console. That's the overpriced early adopter version, always wait for the revision a few years later. Just like with PC parts.
Unless independent reviewers show that it is constantly hitting 60 fps at 4k with basic RT, it will be a pass. Too many games are being based on PS4 yet to this day with minor bumps for current gen. It will be even rarer to find games that take advantage of a Pro model.
@jdv95 “that's the thing though, there are zero rumors about a xbox series upgrade in a world where there are tons of rumors about big MS projects”
Could you imagine the L Xbox would take over and over if EVERY single game ran better on a PlayStation system, because they’re the only ones with a premium system. Ponies rubbing it in the faces of xbots after every single release, and bots trying to justify why they don’t need an upgraded system. It sounds horrible.
@freddquadros “What a PS5 Pro will bring that justifies an entirelly new console?”
If they put out a console that could consistently do 4k/60 or maybe get some raytracing in there, I’d buy one and pass my vanilla PS5 down to my son. I’d have no problem spending $650/$700 or so on something like that. That’s still cheaper than a gpu upgrade for the pc.
I will buy it day one if true! Don't see the problem people weren't forced or urged to buy the PS4 Pro, it was there for the people that wanted a little more from games.
Not interested in a pro but would like a ps5 smaller than a car
I'm a little disappointed if true. I have feeling the potential of the PS5 is not even reached yet and it already becomes surpassed in specs
Consoles always disappoint. The PS3,4,5 are all underpowered for what we want, think should be, or feel led to believe. The norm it seems is wait for the next gen version to get the 1080p or 4K, and smooth 60fps desired in the highest resolution the game can output.
About cross gen. PS3 and 4 had less I imagine because of the vast power difference along with the cell processor of the PS3. The similarities between the 4 and 5, and maybe the mid gen PRO
made cross gen very possible and profitable.
Cross gen holding back the 5. Maybe some, but maybe it is long development times and how well some can scale their games to two different gen's specs.
Overall I'm still enjoying my PS4 PRO and the cross gen games. I will not purchase the current big ugly PS5.
I think a slim 5 is definitely needed and also a PRO to extend the current generation. Slim 2023, PRO 2024 is my guess, but how huge may a PRO be? Could it even be uglier?
Seems extremely unnecessary but we’ll see if/when it gets revealed.
@UltimateOtaku91 Not really.
Microsoft already had better specs, yet the massive bulk of console gamers bought Sony.
Microsoft's problems aren't the quality of the console. It's their quality of first parties, which I know they're working on, along with still hurt from their red ring fiasco back on 360.
Red rings were so bad for me, I went through 6 360's red ringing. I made a vow to never own another Xbox. I keep my vows.
I know I'm not the only one who ditched MS for that reason.
Far as a PS5 Plus...eh, I'm old. Got more throw away money. I might be interested.
@NoCode23 You emphasized the ugliness twice.
That's always confused me, caring about the look of a console.
Am I the weirdo for not gazing at my console and just looking at the tv screen playing actual games?
If I'm not playing games, I don't remember ever sitting and glancing over at any console and thinking about it's beauty or ugliness.
@K1LLEGAL 😄
@burning_as_souls, The ugly thing is new for me. All of my previous consoles, SNES, PS2, 3, and 4 have all just blended in. Not pretty, not ugly, but just blended in. Same with my tv's, stereo, vcr, dvd player and into my kitchen my microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. Then comes the big, ugly, and weird looking PS5. I doubt it would ever blend in, go unnoticed, and not annoy me.
@Jackpaza0508 Doesn't affect them they'll still have their PS5 their gaming isnt limited. People who are wanting a Pro model will be the hard-core gamers who will have made the effort to get the PS5 2 years ago
@NoCode23 best looking console in a long time IMO. Don't people get tired of boring black boxes. And I spend my time gaming not staring at it 😂
@Andy22385 doesn’t change the fact that the model you busted your ass to get ends up not even being the best one
I didn't want the PS4 Pro because I hated the fact it would cost more money for little gain.
I ended up with a PS4 Pro when I got a 4k TV and couldn't buy a PS5 due to the stock problems. It was quite lacklustre. The split horizon between Pro and standard features was annoying.
Do we really need a PS5 Pro? Could we not wait for a PS6?
I just don't see the need as others have pointed out. This is the first year since the ps5 where games are launching exclusively to the ps5 and not ps4 which we knew would happen but it's taken it time to leave the old gen behind. Obviously I don't want people left behind because these new gen consoles cost a bomb but I thought we would have got to the point of making games solely for ps5 alot sooner, I believe chip shortages /covid played a big role in the delay.
I feel that if they do decide to release a pro version then they need to have an amazing upgrade path like trading in your standard ps5 and you only need to pay £50-£100 to get the pro then that might work although it's still a big chunk of change it might be enough for people to go for the pro.
If they don't do that then I truly don't see a pro version selling well at all.
Sony has been all about extracting every dollar. PS5 pro is on brand with Jim Ryan leadership
@Jackpaza0508 still doesn't change your experience that you paid for. By this time in PS4s cycle the Pro was nearly out
@freddquadros Guaranteed 4K performance with a stable 60 fps at the same time possibly? Maybe even throw in Ray Tracing too.
@Impossibilium I'm hopeful what would happen is they'll permanently cut the regular PS5 (or inevitable Slim) down to $400-$450, and then charge $500-$550 for the PS5 Pro.
@Anti-Matter PS5 slim still does not officially exist yet, nor has it ever been announced. We only have the Disc and Digital PS5s currently.
@frankmcma @Toypop @SirMarshmallow @Green-Bandit @Intr1n5ic @Relygon @Nightcrawler71 @Joabra01Swe @Hypnotoad107 @Juanalf I'd still love to get my hands on a PS5 Pro, the PS5 hardware is definitely starting to show it's age!
Here's hoping the Holiday 2024 rumor turns out to be true.
@KidBoruto I’d buy one if true. I love the pro style systems. I understand they aren’t for everyone and most people don’t need them. But for us that do, i am happy they are a thing. I loved my PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
@NEStalgia yeah it would make absolutely no sense if true. Don't get me wrong, one coming in few more years would make a bit of sense but as for next year? Nope. But you are right, it's just stupid rumours that keep being generated due to the steam and clicks they get everytime. Either that or again like you said a new hardware revision or the next gen of PlayStation is getting mixed up in the mill somewhere.
Either way I hope Sony do something in the next quarter. And bring back the days of when there was a spokesperson for the company.
@theMEGAniggle You mean Jim isn't a great spokesperson!?
There is no chance of this being true, no matter how many clicks such 'news' sites try to gather.
As we all know, the only reason at all for having a 'pro console' last gen was the rapid adoption of 4K tellies and needing a game system that could use them.
There is no such tech reason for needing an update on a system that's only just now freely available and selling like hot cakes and smashing its rivals.
History has shown its not a good move to split your skews, its always been a failure in the past and simply makes your development cycle harder. Even the series S which is only slightly different to the series X is causing issues for some developers this early in the cycle and I believe will cause more issues in the future. It was an issue that MS might have faced anyway with its insistence on parity of releases across all its boxes including PC, but Sony's ecosystem certainly doesn't need an other skew for any reason.
@NEStalgia who would've thought!
PS5 Pro Ray Tracing Edition only $599!
No thanks...ray tracing basically sucks.
On Elden Ring, it halves the FPS for better shadows.
@Green-Bandit Same here with both my original PS4 Pro Black, and my Limited Edition Spidey PS4 Pro.
@Titntin with console running as PC’s a pro would just be a different graphics card to develop for really. I to don’t love lot’s of SKU’s for consoles, but with games scaling to the engine and power feed to it, i am not sure this would hurt much as the Pro would just handle the game better and add a little extra, the regular console would still run just fine. With the Series S/X most of the time it’s the dev’s not putting in the time or having the time to polish their games, i believe games like HellBlade 2 and others will show the S is still really strong when given the quality time to it. I could be wrong but i want to see how it stacks up to the X for first party games before i write it off. I loved the PS4 Pro and One X last gen, but agree there was a true need for it. This gen there is no glaring need outside of just better performance, but many like myself would buy the better hardware to ensure 60FPS over 30.
@KidBoruto yeah the Pro last gen was sweet, that Spider-man one will be worth money in the next few years, i would hang onto it.
@Green-Bandit I have been tempted to sell it before multiple times, but thankfully still have my Spidey PS4 Pro.
@KidRyan Yeah i am sure collectors would be willing to pay up quick for that. It wouldn’t take you long to sell put it that way 😀
@Green-Bandit I'll probably wait until it's worth $400+ on eBay.
In no hurry to sell mine really.
